2024 IASLC Academy

The IASLC seeks early career physicians to participate in the 2024 IASLC Academy! The application is open October 31-November 30, 2023. To learn more about this program, please review the information below. 

About the Program The IASLC Academy is a professional development program for early career physicians from around the world who are interested in pursuing an academic career in thoracic oncology. Taught by prominent leaders in the field, participants receive mentoring to complete a project and to explore topics related to career development and research. The initial portion of the program will be conducted through a series of seven virtual meetings throughout the year, culminating in a live workshop during WCLC 2024 (circumstances permitting, travel expenses and conference registration will be provided). 
Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Active membership in the IASLC
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school
  • Experience as a medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, pneumologist/pulmonologist, thoracic surgeon, pathologist, or radiologist
  • Within five years of completion of an accredited residency or training program excluding any period of mandatory military duties    
Application Requirements

Applications must include the following:

  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Short-answer questions (300 word max)
    • Describe your professional goals.
    • How will this program help you further your career as a lung cancer specialist? 
  • Curriculum Vitae that includes
    • Work history (internships, jobs, volunteer work, etc.) 
    • Education
    • Research experience  
    • Awards and grants 
    • Presentations in scientific and professional meetings in regional, national and international events   
    • Publications including abstracts, original articles, reviews, etc. 
  • Brief Narrative Bio (250 word max)
  • Recent high-resolution head shot
Awardee Requirements*

2024 IASLC Academy Participants are required to:

  • Attend the 2024 World Conference on Lung Cancer (September 7-10, 2024 in San Diego, California, USA).
  • Participate in at least 80% of the planned online activities.
  • Create a research project and deliver a summary presentation at the 2024 Academy Workshop
  • Create a patient case for the 2024 Amazing Case Race simulation activity.

*If at any time an awardee is unable to or fails to fulfill these requirements, the IASLC has the right to withdraw the Academy Award.

  • Applications must be submitted by November 30, 2023 at 12:00pm (noon) Denver time [18:00 UTC]. 
Selection Selection will be made by members of the IASLC Academy Faculty, the Education Committee, and the Career Development Committee, based on stated eligibility criteria and to reflect a diverse participant pool. 
Applicant Notification Applicants will be notified of their status via email by December 20, 2023.
